Should keywords be placed in the part of the page URL that follows the domain name? It appears that some of our competitors rank high because of this.
Btw, the Google web master tools recommend to use page URLs (i.e. file names) that consist of several words separated by hyphens, e.g. www.mydomain.com/word1-word2.html

Yes, it's good to have keywords in your URLs.

Thanks Dan.
A related question is if keywords should be placed in the anchor text of internal links. I can see this for text and img links, but for menu items it could make them lengthy (there is usually limited space on a menu) and ugly (e.g. repeating some important words on every menu item).

Hi Dan,

i have all the 100 Keywords as described. How should i add them to the content? Each page, modul, Blog should have the same, or should it be distributed?

Secondly what about the Descriptions? Do they not matter? As far as i understood we are talking about the Metadata until now.

Cheers,

The best way would be to distribute them and optimize each page for some 3-5 keywords.

As for meta description - that page element is not taken into account by Google while ranking your site anymore, however a meta description is displayed in the search results' pages under the URL. So you need to make sure there is a nice text in the meta description in order to increase your click-through rate.

Hi Dan, metadescription was clear. But are metatags in a Joomla site taken into account by Google? I mean if i do not want to rewrite the whole text, i can only use metatags. Or am i wrong?

I know i'm too late but if you are there , if modify my blog to keywords suitable for it
- how much searchengines will take time to modify my rank ?

Combined with regular link-building (to secure timely indexation) onpage optimization changes should affect your ranks in some 2-3 weeks.

Will re-submitting the xml sitemap to the search engines help?

@ Mohamed AbuTaleb:
None can tell you exactly when search engines will apply changes to your ranking. You have just to wait for their bots to crawl your blog. It can take even a month.
Rewrite and resubmit your sitemap and validate it in Google webmaster tools once you've finished tuning your blog.

I found this book almost by accident (or was it great SEO work), I have been researching for the best software for some time. It always comes down to a hand full.

I was lucky enough to find this book to go along with the software that most attracted me, it was lucky for me because I had already been sent a few videos by the software company. They did not work, probably something to do with my computer, but all the same, without this book I would not still be looking at this software, it is well written, and has some good examples.

The lessons are chopped right down and that makes them digestible, and short enough to go over, and over again. I just did the first test, and I got 100%. It has been a fair few years since I sat down and was put on the spot like that, albeit a short test, it got the blood running and made me think.

Great work Dan, as we say in Bulgaria - Blagodaria

Step 1 Feedback.

Love your writing style! Easy to read as I'm very new with this.

I have the paid version and it's really nice to work along with the samples. If I mess it up, which I have a few times already I can just delete it all and start again. I'm using a simple 'training site' to help me get familiar with the SEO Suite tools.

As for a PDF, I really don't need one. I verbally sit back and try to sum up each lesson out loud. I'm thinking of also doing this in Omini Outline. Put the lesson in my own words with links to the lesson page in case I'm not clear when I return to review.

I really like the way you present the examples. It would be nice to update some examples, like the use of the 'suggestion' tool. It seems like the number of suggestions have grown since you last wrote this manual. Personally, it's no biggie with me. Just a suggestion for when you have free time and nothing to do.

In Japan we like to bow in show of appreciation.

Dan-sensei, Doomo arigatoo gozaimaishita (Thank you very much)

There's no PDF version and I don't know when I'm going to have time to create it - sorry. Why don't you just make the printout right from the browser? ;)
